Class Specific Update:

Homework will consist of home reading books, maths or English homework and optional topic activities and will come home every Friday, to be returned each Wednesday.


Children will be heard read in class during Guided Reading sessions and individually.  Please help your child by regularly listening to them read at home and please sign their reading log each time you read. Books will not be changed without a signed diary. We recommend at least 10 minutes each day. Being a good reader means more than being able to read the words on the page, it also means being able to understand what is going on. Therefore, asking your child questions as you read together will be really helpful. See the enclosed booklet for more information.


PE lessons take place each week – our class slot is Monday. Please make sure that your child has their kit in school ready to take part. School PE kit is white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps for indoor and trainers for outdoor lessons. Please remember that children cannot take part in lessons if they have ear rings in.  If your child does get their ear(s) pierced, they will need to be able to take their studs out before lessons by themselves. Staff are not allowed to help.


Lessons cover the entire National Curriculum at SASJ, this term your child will be learning about:


Our theme for this half term is ‘The community and special people’. We shall be thinking about our Church and the special people there and in our own lives.


This half term we are focusing on stories by the same author. We are looking at books by Oliver Jeffers who writes about a little boy who goes off on adventures. We will look at contraction words and continue to use joining words in our sentences that will be punctuated. We will plan and produce our own story based on the story ‘Lost and Found’ where we will create our own character. Our second English unit will look at non—chronological reports, where we will read and explore information texts about animals, look at their features and learn lots of facts that we can then use in our own piece of writing. We will then create our own non-chronological report organised in sections which we will plan and edit before producing our final presentation piece.


In maths this  half term we shall begin by looking at place value in the context of measure where we will explore different scales whilst weight a variety of objects. We will be describing and investigating the properties of 2-d and 3-d shapes, we will then find different combinations of coins that equal the same amounts of money and solve simple money word problems. We will also look at multiplication and be learning our two, fives and tens times tables and then move onto division as sharing and grouping.


In Science we shall be looking at animals. We shall be grouping animals based on different aspects. Their animal group, whether they are carnivores or herbivores and also look at how animals can move. We shall use new vocabulary to de-scribe them.


In ICT  we shall be using purple mash to develop our spreadsheet skills. We will be creat-ing our own spreadsheets and entering formulas.


This half term we shall be thinking Penguins, Possums and Pigs.


This half  term we shall be showing our teachers the skills we have in travelling, throwing, jumping and landing.

Each week, our class will be going to the library to choose a personal book to read in school and at home. Our weekly slot is Thursday.
