Class Specific Update:

Homework will consist of maths, spelling and grammar and will come home every Friday to be returned each Wednesday.

Children will be heard read in class during Guided Reading sessions and individually.  Our class reader this half term is The World According to Humphrey by Betty G Birney.  Please help your child by regularly listening to them read at home.  Being a good reader means more than being able to read the words on the page, it also means being able to understand what is going on.  See the enclosed booklet for more information.

PE lessons take place each week – our class slot is Friday where we will go swimming in a 12 week block. Please make sure that your child has their swimming kit in school ready to take part. School PE kit is white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps for indoor and trainers for outdoor lessons. Please remember that children cannot take part in lessons if they have earrings in.  If your child does get their ear(s) pierced, they will need to be able to take their studs out before lessons by themselves. Staff are not allowed to help.

Lessons cover the entire National Curriculum at SASJ, this half term your child will be learning about:

Our topics this half term is ‘Local Church Community’ where we will look at belonging and the way our parishes join together and serve the community. ‘Giving and Receiving’ is our next focus.  This will centre around the Eucharist and the Eucharistic Rite.

We will incorporate our grammar techniques to produce our own story with a dilemma, inspired by the short story, The Balaclava Story in The Fib by George Layton.  We will also look at persuasive language in adverts and leaflets.

We will be focusing on place value, fractions, division, multiplication, measurement and statistics. Our daily arithmetic and times tables practice will further develop our skills.

This half term will involve some ‘Wow Science’ mini investigations. We will describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans. We will identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions.

This half term we will practise touch typing.  We will learn how to receive and send Emails, focussing on online safety.

The Art of Food – We will be researching a variety of artists, including Cezanne and Renoir.  We will develop our sketching and modelling skills in the style of these Impressionist and Post-impressionist artists.

This half term we will develop and demonstrate our skills in games such as Net-wall and tennis.

Each week, our class will be going to the library to choose a personal book to read in school and at home. Our weekly slot is Tuesday afternoon.
