Prospective Parents

Looking for a school? New to Accrington? Here's a few reasons why you might want to choose SASJ...

I am always happy to welcome new faces to our family, and appreciate that choosing the right school is of huge importance to any parent.

When thinking about choosing a school for your child, I always encourage parents to make a visit - come and visit us on a normal school day, and get a feel for what makes us special. Many visitors have commented on the family feel and friendly welcome - why not come and experience it for yourself?

  • Friendly approachable staff
  • Family, catholic ethos - full of warmth and welcome - this is our schiool, let love dwell here!
  • Wrap around care via our linked Out of School Club
  • Award winning school, such as Woodland Trust Platinum, Hyndburn School of the year (Sports), EYFS Step into Quality (Outdoors)
  • Extra Curricular clubs four nights a week - accessible to all age groups with a mix of school staff and external teachers; football and netball club all year, three subsidised clubs a week run by external staff (that change each half term to focus on different sports, eg curling, archery, multi sports, athletics, tennis), school choir that performs throughout the year in school and around the community.
  • Pupils supporting each other - Guardian Angels, Life Savers, Play Leaders, Gardeners, Chaplaincy Team, Sports Council

If you want to know more or come and visit - ring Juliet on 01254 233019 to book an appointment!

What parents think of us...

I am so thankful for your hard work to teaching my child. Thank you so much.

My child enjoys school and I am happy with her progress.

The school has a lovely family and nurturing atmosphere. All staff are welcoming and friendly.

I have noticed a major improvement since the start of the new year in school.

My daughter is doing amazing in class. I am really happy with her progress and how her teacher is pushing the children to achieve in all areas.

Very pleased with the teaching staff

My son loves the school and comes home buzzing. Really glad we decided on St Anne’s & St Joseph’s.

Just wanted to say thank you for your support for my child.

Mass in school and Church

We serve the parish of St Annes & St Josephs, with Father Stamp as our Parish Priest.  Father comes into school each month to lead a Mass with the school - sometimes for the whole school, sometimes for specific parts of the school.  We also celebrate the Holy Days of Obligation and the main religious festivals.

Sacramental Programme

Father Stamp supports the children and families in year 3 who wish to take their next step on their journey of faith - the Sacraments of Reconcilliation and Communion. This programme starts every January and runs through till June.

Support beyond the classroom

School Counsellor

We have a dedicated school counsellor who comes into school each week. Sarah works with children who have been through difficult times at home and helps them work through their feelings and emotions, helping them to cope with whatever life is throwing at them.

Intervention Groups

At some point, most children will struggle with some aspect of reading, writing or maths - most will be able to deal with this in class through the support of their class teacher and support assistant. Some pupils need additional help and support, so each afternoon we have a team of support assistants who work with children throughout the school to help address issues in core subjects - giving focused intervention to help them close any gaps!

We have a dedicated home-school liaison officer - Wendy Schofield.  Wendy works through school to support families in their homes, leading meeting, involving additional agencies, signposting parents to extra support, all with the  aim of giving children as stable a home life as possible.
