Design & Technology

“He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers, all of them skilled workers and designers.” (Exodus 35:35)

At St Anne’s and St Joseph’s, our bespoke Design Technology curriculum is designed to develop knowledge and skills that are progressive throughout primary school enabling children to strengthen both critical thinking and problem-solving strategies. Our curriculum is specifically set up to link with other areas of learning to allow children to revisit and develop understanding.

Through their learning journey with us all children will develop:

- an understanding of the design process and how to refine the quality of outcomes at each stage

- a balance of skills in all the strands of DT: textiles, structures, mechanisms, electrical systems, computing

- knowledge of cooking and nutrition that builds on their learning in science, geography and history as well as progressively structured cooking skills

Our Catholic Curriculum: Design Technology incorporates creativity and risk-taking leading to a high level of resourcefulness enabling learners to become channels of divine inspiration. Design Technology calls forth imagination, resourcefulness and creativity whilst drawing on a wide range of complimentary disciplines. Design Technology challenges children to engage with issues of inclusion, stewardship, the dignity of the human person and ecology
