Handwriting

At St Anne’s and St Joseph’s, our Handwriting Curriculum is designed so that all children have:
· access to a carefully sequenced and progressive handwriting curriculum that develops secure letter formation before progressing to accurate, legible and fluent handwriting.
· opportunities to develop the physical and technical skills required for successful handwriting, including posture, pencil grip, letter formation, positioning, size, spacing and, when ready, appropriate joining.
· regular, purposeful practice that develops automaticity, fluency and stamina, enabling children to write efficiently and confidently across the curriculum and, as they mature, adapt their handwriting appropriately for different purposes.

Handwriting enables learners to communicate their thoughts, ideas and understanding clearly to others. Through developing a fluent and legible hand, learners gain the confidence to express themselves and ensure that their words can be read and understood. We recognise written communication as a means through which learners can share knowledge, creativity and truth, contributing positively to their community and the wider world
