Year 5 & 6

Let all that you do be done in love.

1 Corinthians 16:14

Welcome to Year 5 and 6! We are a busy, curious and occasionally noisy bunch, and I wouldn't have it any other way. At SASJ we want our classrooms to be somewhere children feel happy, safe and ready to have a go, whether they are tackling something they already love or something that feels completely impossible at first.

I am Mrs Jude and lead English, Computing and Science across the school. I love books, words and good conversations, so there is plenty of all three in our classroom. We read widely, ask lots of questions and aren't afraid to disagree with each other. I want children to be curious about what they are learning and to develop their own ideas, rather than simply waiting to be given the 'right' answer.

Being in Year 5 and 6 also means becoming one of the oldest children in school. With that comes a little more independence and responsibility, but also plenty of opportunities to lead, help others and show the younger children what it means to be part of our school family.

I expect children to work hard and do their best, but I don't expect them to get everything right. Mistakes are allowed here. So are questions, second attempts, changed minds and the occasional spectacular disaster!

Most of all, I hope our children leave Year 5 and 6 proud of how far they have come, confident in who they are and excited about where they are going next.

Important things for our class to remember:

Read, read, read.

Read as much as you can, as often as you can. It really makes a difference.

Don't forget to submit your reading record at the end of each week
